Abstract
Researchers have attempted to use Rokeach's Value Scale in a field setting only to find a very small percentage of Ss willing to volunteer to fill out the scale. The present experiment determined whether these volunteer Ss were representative in their rankings of the larger group of Ss who refused to participate so that future research using the scale need not be abandoned because of possible bias in selection of Ss. Results indicated few differences between volunteers and non-volunteers on the Value Scale. One significant difference was that volunteers ranked “helpful” as more important than non-volunteers did, indicating behavioral validation of the scale. Keywords
