A study of miners in relation to the accident problem: I. Psychiatric evaluation.

Abstract
From psychiatric and psychologic examination of 10 accident-prone miners, it was concluded that accident potential is a psychologic response to the effect of current situations on specific personality trends. There is usually unconscious conflict with authority, the accident being used to reduce the guilt resulting from this conflict. Or there is failure of dependency gratifications when deep hostility has been associated with great dependency needs in persons having an authority-hostility conflict. Projection and intro-jection can be successfully used by some accident-prone persons, making actual accidents unnecessary for them.
