Epicardial Electrocardiograms Recorded in the Course of Seven Cases of Heart Surgery

Abstract
Direct epicardial leads have taken, on 7 patients exhibiting right or left ventricular hypertrophy, by introducing an electrode through a small rent in the pericardium. Unipolar QRS patterns obtained at different points on the epicardial surfaces of the right and left ventricles have been compared with precordial unipolar QRS patterns taken before intervention. In cases exhibiting left ventricular hypertrophy good correspondence between right-sided precordial leads and right ventricular epicardial leads as well as left-sided precordial leads and left-ventricular epicardial leads were shown. In cases exhibiting right ventricular hypertrophy, a correspondence existed only between right-sided precordial leads and right ventricular epicardial leads.
