Abstract

Possible ion—molecule reactions leading to NO⁺ formation have been investigated. It has been found that

\begin{matrix} O^{+} + N_{2} \to {NO}^{+} + N, & k_{1} {≈2.2×10}^{−11} {cm}^{3} \sec^{−1}, \\ N_{2}^{+} + O_{2} \to {NO}^{+} + NO, & k_{2} {≤2.1×10}^{−13} {cm}^{3} \sec^{−1}, \\ O_{2}^{+} + N_{2} \to {NO}^{+} + NO, & k_{5} {≤2.1×10}^{−13} {cm}^{3} \sec^{−1} . \end{matrix}

Evidence has also been found for the following reaction of N⁺ ions

\begin{matrix} N^{+} + O_{2} \to {NO}^{+} + O, & k_{6} {≈1×10}^{−10} {cm}^{3} \sec^{−1}, \\ N^{+} + {CO}_{2} \to {NO}^{+} + CO, & k_{7} {≈3×10}^{−11} {cm}^{3} \sec^{−1} . \end{matrix}
