Abstract
RECENT progress in the laboratory assessment of testicular function has simplified the evaluation of male hypogonadism. As elsewhere in endocrinology, however, a judicious use of the available laboratory tests requires a knowledge of the physiology. Figure 1 presents schematically the control of gonadal function in the human male.The output of pituitary gonadotropins is under the control of specific releasing factors that are produced in the hypothalamus and reach the pituitary gland via the hypophyseal portal vessels.
