Abstract
Twelve patients with advanced non-respectable gynecologic malignancy were treated by a new method of pelvic perfusion. Abdominal operation was not done unless urinary diversion or colostomy was necessary. Closed pelvic perfusion is a relatively safe procedure even for the debilitated patient. The preoperative preparation of the patient and the operation are briefly described. The circulatory observations made during perfusion are given and the measures taken to reduce "leak" are discussed. The subjective and objective results of perfusion are described. Relief of pain and necrosis of tumors were noted in 8 of 12 patients. Relief from pain in some patients was very remarkable. Four patients are alive, 3 to 8 months after perfusion. Although these still have persistent disease, necrosis of the tumor and regression have been apparent in all. Although no dramatic results can be claimed from this small series, it is thought that better results will be achieved with this closed perfusion technic when better anticancer agents are available. Keywords
