Pulmonary Blastoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract
A case of pulmonary blastoma occurring in a 48-year-old man is reported. Clinical and pathologic features are reviewed, together with those of 21 cases recorded in the literature. Seventeen of the reported cases occurred in men and four in women. The mean age was 48 years, which is somewhat younger than that for carcinoma of the lung. Pulmonary blastoma is usually unilateral and peripheral in location. Clinical evaluation has been inconsistent and unreliable as to the diagnostic determination of the tumor type and degree of malignancy. Prognosis after adequate resection appears to be better than for other malignant tumors of the lungs. The present case is unique in that the pulmonary blastoma was with an independent primary carcinoma in the opposite lung.
