Abstract
A technique by which it is possible to observe in the same oil chamber the growth of many single cells from various strains of E. coli is described. In cultures from a single cell, variations in colony growth rate were observed. Populations derived from selected small and large colonies breed true as long as the particular growth conditions remain unaltered. Keywords
