Abstract
A series of bb mutants of the Y chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster was analyzed by the rRNA/DNA hybridization technique. The molecular basis of the bb mutation Is a partial deficiency of DNA complementary to ribosomal RNA. A mutant was found In which rDNA was present but not operative. Possible interpretations of this mutation are discussed. Keywords
