Abstract
Experiments on dogs comparing gross and microscopic appearances of the distended urinary bladder indicate that urinary retention with its associated increased intravesical pressure and overstretching of the bladder wall can lead to loss of capillary and tissue integrity. The severity of damage to the bladder wall and not the rate of emptying prior to catheterization could determine the degree of hemorrhage after bladder decompression. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
