Abstract
Chorionic gonadotrophic hormone administered to 18 boys with true cryptorchidism induced complete descent in 45% partial descent, in 33%, and no descent in 22%. Better response was obtained in the cases of bilateral and in the inguinal types of cryptorchidism. Boys with adiposo-genital dystrophy were given supplementary treatment of desiccated thyroid and ant. pituitary substances and a diet high in protein and low in fats and carbohydrates. Better results were obtained in this type of boy than in the apparently normal boy. Testosterone propionate was administered subsequent to and in alternation with therapy with chorionic gonadotrophic hormone to 5 boys with cryptorchidism and to one adult with unilateral cryptorchidism associated with the obese type of eunuchoidism. 3 had had previous unsuccessful treatment with chorionic hormone. The alternating adm. of both hormones produced no further descent of the testes. Testosterone propionate produced a partial descent of an abdominal cryptorchid in the eunuchoid adult and subsequent adm. of chorionic gonadotrophic hormone was followed by complete descent. Chorionic gonadotrophic hormone was given to 19 boys with hypogenitalism, in alternation with testosterone propionate to 9 boys in whom the first type of treatment was unsuccessful, and to one eunuchoid adult who had not received previous treatment. Adm. of chorionic gonadotrophic hormone is more effective in producing complete descent of undescended testes than is testosterone propionate alone, or in alternation with chorionic gonado-trophin. Supplementary treatment is necessary and beneficial in the cryptorchid boy with an associated adiposo-genital dsytrophy or hypothyroidism. Testosterone propionate alone or in alternation with chorionic gonadotrophic hormone is more effective than the latter in the treatment of hypogenitalism. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
