Abstract
Although the perfect or sexual state of many species of dermatophytes has been discovered, most of the perfect states belong to the geophilic dermatophytes. The perfect state of many species of zoophilic and anthropophilic dermatophytes is yet unknown. Difficulities in obtaining the perfect state can be attributed to heterothallism, the nature of the culture media, the sexual reactivity and/or the sexual degeneration of the strain. The phenomenon of sexual degeneration which is evident in Arthroderma vanbreuseghemii and in A. benhamiae is briefly presented; a hypothesis is presented that it might exist in the dermatophytes known only by their imperfect states. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
