The Influence of the Airways Resistance and Alveolar Pressure on the Pulmonary Vascular Resistance in Chronic Bronchitis

Abstract
The pulmonary vascular resistance can be raised by increasing the alveolar gas pressure in normal subjects and by voluntary hyperventilation in chronic bronchitis. Among patients with chronic bronchitis there is a significant correlation between the airways and the pulmonary vascular resistance or pulmonary arterial pressure.
