Sampling light intensity in a young pine plantation

Abstract
Measurements of integrated light intensity, using chemical light meters, were taken at selected height levels within and below the canopy of a closed red pine plantation to study the range of variation. A table of coefficients of variation was then prepared to facilitate estimation of statistically reliable sample sizes for each level. The greatest variation in the data was observed at a point in midcanopy. Differences were not significant between sampled levels below the live crown.
