Abstract
General meetings of the branch will be held in the Byng Kendrich suite at the University of Aston, Birmingham. At the first meeting, on 17 September, members were welcomed by the branch chairman, who introduced two speakers to address them on Careers in computing; these were Mr C. Clarke, of the management services department of Tube Investments Limited, and Mr A. H. Wright, manager of the user programming service of International Computers Limited. On 8 October the branch was addressed by Mr R. M. Wheeler on The Rolls Royce ‘Magpie’ system of production control, and on 12 November by Mr P. Astle, of Birmingham Corporation, on Computing in local authorities. Before commencement of the 1968–69 session the committee of the branch decided to launch a new Systems Analysis Sub-Group, and at the first general meeting of the branch, on 17 September, a survey was conducted to assess the degree of support which such a group would have and the subjects of interest to members.
