Abstract
Anesthetized mongrel dogs were used to determine the rheobase and chronaxie of vocal fold movement (contraction of the intrinsic laryngeal musculature that adducts the vocal folds). The recurrent laryngeal nerves of dogs were electrically stimulated bilaterally. Recordings of vocal fold movement were made by using a photoelectric system designed by the investigator. Chronaxie of vocal fold movement varied for each animal, with values ranging from 80 to 140 microseconds. Keywords
