Abstract
Abilities of two types of polyethylene samplers to collect black fly larvae were compared with ceramic fireplace tiles, Surber samplers, and Hess samplers. The polyethylene samplers were colonized as well as tiles and were superior to bottom samplers for sampling black flies. The percentages of each species collected from polyethylene samplers were comparable with natural vegetation. Simulium penobscotensis Snoddy and Bauer and Simulium nyssa Stone and Snoddy, which do not readily colonize tiles, were collected by the polyethylene samplers in numbers similar to those collected by vegetation. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
