Abstract
The author traces three stages in his development of techniques to calm children in crisis. First stage techniques relied upon traditional life-space interviewing techniques. Second stage techniques focused on helping the child gain distance from the conflict. Third stage techniques consisted of helping the child to change mood through the use of positive introjects combined with obsessive compulsive activities. Working with milieu staff is included in the discussion as is an opinion about the current crisis intervention methods used in many day and residential centers. Keywords
