Abstract
To the editor: Mintz and coworkers (1), in their recent report of risk factors for cytomegalovirus infection, claim that of seven sexual practices investigated, only anal-receptive intercourse correlated with acquisition of infection. Because we have previously shown that cytomegalovirus is excreted in the seminal fluid of 15% of antibody-positive homosexual men (2), transmission through anal-receptive intercourse is conceivable. However, in their analysis of sexual practices, the authors made no attempt to control for age.
