Abstract
In solution, the ‘dialkyltin methoxide halides’ might be expected to take part in the following equilibria: [graphic omitted] ⇌ R2Sn(OMe)2+ R2SnX2⇌ [graphic omitted] ⇌ [graphic omitted] The chemical reactions, molecular weights, and i.r., 119Sn n.m.r., and Mössbauer spectra of these compounds are discussed, and it is concluded that, in dilute solution, the principal solute species is the mixed monomer (A), which, in more concentrated solution, associates to give the symmetrical dimer (B). An analogy is drawn between this solute system and that of the Grignard reagent.Keywords
