Abstract
PbS islands prepared by the vacuum evaporation technique are observed by an electron microscope under the atomic level. For a PbS island grown on a BeO film, the image reflecting the atomic stacking as a result of the extreme thinness and the image of Pb atom chain are obtained. The observations of a Pb monolayer and a new modification of PbS are also made for PbS islands grown on cleavage surfaces of sodium chloride. Keywords
