Abstract
A variational method is applied to calculate the surface energy at the normal-superconducting interface in a superconductor. Both the Casimir-Gorter theory, as formulated by Bardeen, and the phenomenological energy-gap model are used. A comparison is made with the available experimental data. Keywords
