Abstract
We derive a simple model which predicts the observed lower-hybrid current-drive density limit for all major experiments to within a factor of 2. The model is based on (i) the experimentally observed upshift in and (ii) the dependence of the mode coalescence condition of the linear mode conversion of a lower-hybrid wave into a hot-plasma wave.
