FAVORABLE RESPONSE OF CALCINOSIS UNIVERSALIS TO EDATHAMIL DISODIUM

Abstract
Marked improvement occurred after the administration of a chelating agent (Na2EDTA) to a 12-year-old Negro girl with calcinosis universalis. The effectiveness of the regimen was indicated by a decrease in ectopic calcification of the subcutaneous tissue. A slight increase in urinary excretion of calcium occurred during the administration of the chelating agent, but it is difficult to evaluate the significance of this chemical finding. The results reported point to the necessity for further therapeutic and chemical studies employing Na2EDTA in this disorder.
