Abstract
A simple binary code technic for a semiautomated interpretative report for lipoprotein phenotyping is presented. In essence, a series of questions is designed to allow pattern classification, each question being assigned a weight equivalent to an individual power of 2. The weights of all positive responses are summated and the resultant decimal number is referenced in a Magnetic Tape Selectric Typewriter or previously prepared tabulated booklet. Pattern descriptions and prose format interpretations are rendered at the time of initial pattern description and filed under the appropriate decimal equivalent for immediate recall. Three hundred eighteen lipoprotein phenotypes were accomplished in this manner and reports rendered with an estimated. time saving of 40 to 45 min. for each 60 min. of effort previously needed by both a clinical pathologist and his secretary. The incidence of individual lipoprotein phenotypes is essentially that previously found in hospital populations described in the literature. Keywords
