Inheritance of a Soybean Seed Lectin1

Abstract
Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seed from the reciprocal crosses of ‘Amsoy’ and T102 were used to study the inheritance of the soybean seed lectin (SBL) having a molecular weight of 120,MH). Amsoy contains SBL while T102 lacks SBL. From data collected using polyarcylamide gel electrophoresis the presence of SBL is controlled by a single dominant gene designated Le. The homozygous recessive le le results in the lack of SBL. The availability of soybean lines lacking SBL may aid in determining the role and function of SBL.
