Abstract
Charts showing the seasonal frequency distribution of anticyclones, cyclones and cyclogeneses (centers of cyclogenesis) in the Southern Hemisphere south of 15S during the International Geophysical Year are presented. Meridional profiles of the zonal frequencies of the systems are compared with corresponding profiles of sea level pressure and wind, 1000–500 mb thermal wind and 500-mb geostrophic wind. Examples of typical cyclone and anticyclone tracks and of the movement of systems during periods with anomalous circulation are given.
