Theories of behavioural change and their use in health promotion: some neglected areas

Abstract
The paper begins with a brief review of some of the main models of health behaviour which have and are being used in health education and promotion work. Some significant theoretical gaps are identified characterized by underdeveloped conceptions of social structure and cultural process. Some recent work is cited which represents different theoretical approaches. Finally, suggestions are made for the development of theory and practice.
