Abstract
Differential cross sections have been measured for elastic scattering of , , and by and of by . A phase-shift analysis of the data was made to evaluate the nuclear interaction radius and the "surface thickness" for the interaction . The interaction-radius parameter was found to be 1.44±0.03 F for all four scattering experiments, where , the being the nuclear masses of the two nuclei involved in the scattering process. In contrast to the constant value found for , the "surface thickness" was found to be 0.31±0.02 F for the scattering, 0.42±0.04 F for the scattering on both and , and 0.49±0.05 F for the scattering. It is not clear why these "surface thicknesses" differ as they do.
