Saunders has given an account of granularity in non-ideal systems which yields a simple result in good agreement with experiment The simplicity anscs from a particular approximation in the statistical treatment which appears to be not immediately justified. Nevertheless, it is here shown that a detailed analysis fully supports his procedure and thus accounts for the agreement in most practical cases. The difference between the simple and the exact result is usually unimportant.
