Abstract
Some metals readily form bonds to other atoms of the same element in molecular compounds, but others, such as zinc, are not known to do so. In his Perspective, [Parkin][1] highlights the discovery of a molecular compound with a zinc-zinc bond by [ Resa et al .][2] and places the discovery in the context of the other two elements in group 12 of the periodic table, cadmium and mercury.
