Dimensions of Interaction in Psychotherapeutic Groups

Abstract
This study illustrates the major dimensions of interpersonal perceptions of members of small groups using the repertory grid technique. These dimensions were elicitedin the initial and middle stages of group development in a therapeutic and comparison group. The main purpose of the study was to relate one of these dimen sions, a variant of the accepting-rejecting dimension, to independently derived per sonality measures: Mehrabran's RS and DEP. The factor that correlated with these measures was similar to what Bierman (1969) called "empathetic, committed, en countering, " a factor highly typical of the middle stages of group development. This finding applied only to the therapeutic group, suggesting that the method of group management was effective in making group members aware of their feel ings of personal vulnerability in their interactions within the group.
