On the Genesis of Human Handedness

Abstract
The evidence for genetic, learning, and pathological antecedents of human handedness was reviewed. There is direct evidence for a genetic component in handedness. In addition, there is a great deal of incidental evidence that is consistent with a genetic hypothesis. There is also some evidence for pathological left-handedness in a small minority of people. Little evidence supports the hypothesis that handedness is learned.
