Effect of Oxytocin on Adrenocortical Activity in Man

Abstract
The effect of intravenous administration of commercial oxytocin (alpha-hypophamine) and highly purified oxytocin on free 17-hydroxycorticosteroid concentrations in plasma was determined in 8 normal, young, human subjects. These two oxytocin preparations were infused over a 2-hour period in doses varying from 9.0 to 34.6 units. Plasma 17-hydroxycorticosteroid concentrations associated with the administration of oxytocin did not differ significantly from those obtained when a control infusion of saline was given.
