Abstract
The analytical study of the nature of interlaminar stresses near stress free edges has been the subject of substantial research interest. Such studies are significant because the high interlaminar stresses or stress singularities near stress-free edges may cause delamination failure as shown by experimental investigations. Also the accurate prediction of these stresses may be useful in the design of test specimens for investigation of laminate strength. One of the first analytical studies on interlaminar stresses near stress-free edges was published by Pipes and Pagano. In their study, finite difference technique was applied to a symmetric finite-width composite laminate subjected to uniform uniaxial strain. Subsequently other techniques were used to solve similar problems. Keywords
