Abstract
Measurements of the « splay » and « bend » constants for nematic 4'-n-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl are described. The method used was a conventional one, but particular care was taken to ensure reproducible and reliable results. The results are compared with those of previous authors and with predictions based on the mean field theory of Priest [7] and the continuum theory of Faber [10]Keywords
