Abstract
In 1962-65, Aëroglyphus robustus (Banks) infested stored wheat, oats, and barley in farm granaries and elevators in 16 locations throughout southern Manitoba and 5 locations in Saskatchewan. Mites reared in the laboratory on 9 fungus-free diets at 26°C and 75% relative humidity for 2 months multiplied 88 times on rolled oats and yeast (95:5), 50 times on wheat germ and yeast (95:5), 5 times on germ-damaged wheat kernels, but did not survive on undamaged wheat kernels. Observations near Morris, Manitoba, showed that the species is coldhardy and can overwinter in an empty granary as hypopus at −39°C. A natural infestation by A. robustus developed in a 500-bushel wheat bulk in Winnipeg at temperatures from −10°C to 29°C ami moisture from 12.2 to 15% during the period February 1962 to August 1965. Heaviest infestation occurred during late summer and autumn. It is a potentially serious pest of stored grain in Canada and northern United States. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
