Abstract
Adequate knowledge of the ages at which the individual teeth and tooth groups emerge in a given ethnic group is a precondition for properly organized dental care. The mean ages at emergence of permanent teeth in Icelandic children and the mean ages at onset of the dental stages (DS) were determined. The material consisted of 1941 randomly selected children, corresponding to 9.5% of the total primary and secondary school population of Reykjavik. The mean ages at emergence of the permanent teeth and the ages at commencement of DS 2, DS 3, DS 4 and DS M2 are given. Due to the age distribution of the material, mean ages at emergence of the 1st and 3rd molars and of the mandibular central incisors could not be given. A comparison of the emergence-ages in Icelandic children with those of Danish and Norwegian children showed close agreement. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
