The Maximum Torque Generated by the Eccentric, Isometric, and Concentric Contractionsof the Hip Abductor Muscles

Abstract
The right hip abductor muscles of thirty normal male subjects were tested for maximum voluntary eccentric, isometric, and concentric muscle contractions. The torque was calculated and the three types of contractions were compared at 10 degree (0.17 rad) intervals. Twelve of the thirty subjects had roentgenograms taken at each of the 10 degree (0.1 7 rad) intervals so that the moment arm distance of the abductor muscles could be determined and tension calculated. Clinical implications for muscle reeducation were considered.
