Children of alcoholics: a 20-year longitudinal study

Abstract
This article reports the findings of a 20-year study of children from lower-class multiproblem urban families, some of whose parents were alcoholics. The study found that although the parents' alcoholism increased the problems of these already troubled children and increased the likelihood that they would grow up to have drinking problems, it is not possible to predict the child's future adjustment solely from the parents' alcoholism.
