Abstract
Calculations have been performed for the P-wave scattering of positrons by hydrogen atoms for energies up to the first excitation threshold of hydrogen. The trial wavefunction for the complete system consists of a two-state expansion corresponding to the two possible open channels (elastic scattering and positronium formation) in this energy region plus 50 short-range correlation terms. The authors present results for the elastic and positronium formation cross sections. Values for the P-wave contribution to the annihilation rate parameter Zeff are also given. Keywords
