Abstract
The number of viable cells decreased rapidly after liberation from both polymorpho-nuclear and mononuclear phagocytes maintained in tissue culture. The virulent Schu, Chur, Jap and Max strains persisted in low but significant numbers for 72 hrs. in contrast to the avirulent 38A strain which did not. A more rapid drop in viable count was observed in polymorph-onuclear cells. Liberated strain 38A cells which survived were unable to grow as readily as non-phagocytized cells. All strains resisted the bactericidal action of phagocytin obtained from polymorphonuclear cells. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
