Abstract
A 48-year-old white male had 4 attacks of tonsillitis or pharyngitis, followed in 2 to 4 days by back pain, hematuria and on at least one occasion the presence of red cell casts. Each attack was followed by complete recovery. A renal biopsy showed only a focal collection of inflammatory cells with no evidence of acute or chronic glomerulonephritis. Beta hemolytic streptococci were cultured from the throat; the urine was sterile. This entity may represent local tissue allergy with the kidney as the sensitized organ. Keywords
