Abstract
The existence of female mating preference has become well-established in an increas- ing number of animal species. Less well-investigated are the extent and causes of variation in female mating preferences. This paper reviews the evidence for the existence of intraspecific genetic variation in female mating preference, which is a crucial component of virtually all theoretical models of sexual selection. The influence of sexual imprinting on female mating preference is discussed. Keywords
