Compounds Related to Juvenile Hormone. Exceptional Activity of Arylterpenoid Compounds in Four Species of Flies1

Abstract
Six arylterpenoid juvenile hormone mimics were prepared and tested in the laboratory against the house fly, Musca domestica L., the face fly, Musca autumnalis De Geer, the stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans (L)., and the horn fly, Haematobia irritans (L). Three of the compounds also were evaluated as feed additives to cattle and as insecticidal sprays. All compounds were highly active against all 4 species. The JH activity of 2-ethoxy-9-(p-isopropylphenyl)-2, 6-dimethylnonane is the highest thus far reported against all species but the horn fly.
