Consequences of Production Feedback and Standards in a Human-Machine Task

Abstract
The experimental research results showed that in a repetitive human-machine industrial production task, only the combination of production feedback on quantity and quality in the presence of a high-task production standard had significant positive effect or impact on worker productivity, satisfaction and job attitudes, all at the same time. The percentage increase in production quantity and quality output were 13% and 15% respectively, compared to the control group. The assigned high-task production standard and the operators increased workpace did not cause an adverse effect on worker physiological cost. The incorporation of an assigned normal or high-task production standard had no impact on worker productivity. However, the provision of production quantity and quality feedback had a favorable effect on worker satisfaction and job attitudes. The monetary incentive had no beneficial effect on worker productivity, satisfaction and job attitudes.Keywords
