Abstract
Retrosomatic spondylolysis is a very rare type of neural arch defects. In typical cases the defect is a vertical cleft of the pedicle, which is thought to be the result of two ossification centers. The authors present a case of retrosomatic spondylolysis with a segmentation defect of the corresponding vertebral arch structures. The follow-up of this child from age 7 to 12 seems to be proof for this defect to be a fatigue fracture quite similar to those in isthmic spondylolysis.
