Abstract
The modified Block Child Rearing Practices Report (Rickel & Biasatti, 1982) was completed by 628 Black parents in the Caribbean island of Barbados. Separate factor analyses of responses to the main Nurturance and Restrictiveness scales identified four and five fairly discrete and independent subscales (respectively). Findings were generally consistent with those of prior sociological and anthropological research in the Caribbean, but also served to highlight some particular contemporary concerns. General issues relating to the use of this particular research methodology are addressed. Keywords
