Abstract
Loblolly pine trap trees, baited with Frontalure and poisoned with cacodylic acid (Silvisar 510®), were treated in the spring to trap emerging Dendroctonus frontalis Zimmermann in a heavily infested stand in eastern Virginia. With few exceptions, Frontalure was successful in attracting beetles to properly located trap trees. Compared to check trees, cacodylic acid treatments resulted in a 3.5-fold increase in aborted attacks and reduced the brood of successfully attacking beetles by 59.9%. Applications earlier in the spring are suggested to improve treatment effectiveness. Keywords
