Abstract
On the basis of study of 45 cases of ainhum treated during the yrs. 1904-1944, it seems most probable that the most important factor was an hereditary racial tendency. Environment and/or concomitant disease conditions apparently are of little basic significance in controlling the appearance of the condition. Amputation was the most satisfactory treatment. This very painful disease is limited to adult W. Indian negro [male] [male] who otherwise may be healthy and physically active. The incidence is 1.5/10,000 of all hospitalized cases among these people (only [male] [male] included). Keywords
